remove, delete 말고 지우다를 영어로

회사에서 이런저런 문서를 읽다가 생소한단어를 보게되었다.

 

그 단어는 obliterate.

 

Obliterate

verb. to remove all signs of something, either by destroying it or by covering it so that it cannot be seen

무언가의 흔적을 지운다는 뜻으로 사용되는 단어이고 보통 수동태로 많이 사용된다.

wipe out, erase 의 대체용으로도 사용할 수 있을 것 같고, 한영사전에서는 "말소하다" 라는 뜻으로 나온다.

 

아래 예문의 느낌으로 사용해 봐야겠다.

 

All of a sudden the view was obliterated by the fog.

안개로 인해 전망이 사라졌다.

 

Most of code from my old colleagues were obliterated by the new boss.

예전 동료들이 작성한 코드는 새로운 보스에 의해 삭제되었다.

 

The outdated description was obliterated.

구식 설명들은 모두 삭제되었다.
